Chapter 3.3

The Characteristics of Fortune Credit

Although most people believe in the judgment of God, many of them often have hard time to understand why sometimes good things happened to bad people and bad things happened to good people. To fully understand how Fortune Credit and the Law of Judgment from God works, people need to know the following characteristics of Fortune Credit:

1. Fortune Credit, like a bank credit card, has a grace period and can be over-spent or over-valued.

2. Fortune Credit, as Treasure in Heaven, can be passed to future generations like any inheritance.

3. Fortune Credit can be carried through next lives.

1. Fortune Credit has a grace period and can be over-spent or over-valued.

When someone gains some positive or negative Fortune Credit, he may not see the effect right away. Just like a credit card, when you spend the money through credit card -- you don't see the bill right away. Sometimes you can even spend money over the limit. But once the bill comes, you need to start making payments. Fortune Credit works the same way. It may take some time before you start to see the results. But when the time comes, the effect of Fortune Credit will show up, either through good fortune or misfortune. "What comes around goes around." It never fails. It's just a matter of time.

Fortune Credit also works like the stock market. The stock price can be overvalued or undervalued for sometime before the correction happens. In a strong up market, bad news may not be able to keep stocks from rising; and in a bear market, good news do not necessarily prevent stocks from falling, either. People who have positive Fortune Credit can have a bad situation for quite a while before things turn around and some bad people may have good fortune for a while before the judgment comes in, just like those good companies and bad companies in the stock market.

Sometimes you may see some good people have setbacks or misfortune in their life. They may have done something with negative Fortune Credit, which other people or even themselves don’t know. But most likely, they may have done nothing wrong; perhaps they just have over-spent their positive Fortune Credit and turned their “Treasure in Heaven” into deficit, like what happened to Job in the book of Job in the Bible.

Many people read the Book of Job don’t understand why God let all these misfortune happen to Job. They think God just wanted to test him and throw him into all these sufferings for no other reason. Actually, that’s not the case. The reason God let all these sufferings happen to Job and his family is that Job and his family had already had negative Fortune Credit, or deficit of their “Treasure in Heaven”. That’s why God took His protection away and let Satan cause all kinds of miseries.

We all know that Job is a righteous man. He had strong faith in God and had done many great things to the community. For what he had done, God also gave him a great bundle of blessing and made him the wealthiest man in the tribe. But the problem is that his children had overspent the positive Fortune Credit for the family. They enjoyed their luxurious life and had parties and banquets all the time. They didn’t do much good works to earn their good fortune. They just overspent the positive Fortune Credit generated through their father’s good work and faithfulness. When the family’s “Treasure in Heaven” turned into deficit, misfortune and tragedies happened and all his children died. But after all those sufferings, when those deficit of “Treasure in Heaven” or negative fortune Credit was redeemed, Job was blessed again with more wealth on earth and also seven new children in his family.

Therefore, it’s important for people to understand, when good things keep happening to them, they are just spending their positive Fortune Credit or Treasure in Heaven for the good fortune on Earth. Sometimes they may have too much good fortune than their redeemable positive Fortune Credit. At this time they overspend their "Treasure in Heaven" and their Fortune Credit turns negative. If they don't put more extra effort into doing more good works to help others or do more charity to “refill” the positive Fortune Credit, the deficit of positive Fortune Credit will work like negative Fortune Credit and eventually cause some setbacks or misfortunes in their life.

The same thing applies for negative Fortune Credit. When you suffer some misfortune or setbacks in your life, don't complain. It's the time when negative Fortune Credit is being redeemed. If people suffer more than they deserve, their net Fortune Credit will turn positive. Like an oversold stock, the price will turn back soon. Once those negative Fortune Credits are redeemed, and if no more new negative Fortune Credit is created, good things will start to happen.

The important thing here is to be patient with no anger. Anger is the most common negative Fortune Credit that will wipe out the positive Fortune Credit people gain through endurance. It could cause even more negative Fortune Credit if people lose their control on anger, and lead to more misfortune or tragedy. That's why only those people who can keep a positive attitude during setbacks can get up again quickly, and those people who are angry with others during setbacks will still be down for a long time.

As said in the conventional wisdom, too many good fortunes may not be a good thing, and too many misfortunes may not be a bad thing. Lao Zi, the founder of Taoism in China, once said in Dao De Jing, “Misfortune is what good fortune relies, and good fortune is where the misfortune hides.” These words of wisdom all reflect the Principle of Fortune Credit. When too many good things happen, the positive Fortune Credit was redeemed and maybe overspent. The deficit of Fortune Credit, or Treasure in Heaven, may lead to misfortune. The only way to avoid that misfortune after good fortune is to keep doing good works to “refill” the Treasure in Heaven. When too many bad things happen, keep positive attitude and the reward for endurance will soon be there.

2. Fortune Credit can be passed to future generations.

Fortune Credit, as “Treasure in Heaven”, can be passed to your children like any inheritance. In the East, people hear these kinds of stories all the time. When parents have done something good for God or Buddha, the children are also blessed. When parents do something bad, the children were also cursed. Both positive and negative Fortune Credit can be passed to the next several generations. However, in the West, most people may think that the parents and children are independent. They may forget what is said in the Bible:

"The LORD, the LORD, ... Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punished the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation." (Exodus 34: 6-7)

Here are two examples in the Bible. The first example is about King David. When David had adultery with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11), he sent her husband Uriah to be killed by the enemy. This is a very bad negative Fortune Credit. One of the punishments is the death of his own son. People may wonder why God punished his son instead of letting David take all the punishment. Because David had a lot of positive Fortune Credit in the past, by following the orders of the Lord and by being faithful to the Lord, he got the punishment but his positive Fortune Credit saved his life. His son didn’t have enough positive Fortune Credit. So when the negative impact of negative Fortune Credit happened, the infant son died. It’s like a man who catches the flu outside and brings it to his family. He may be healed in a few days but his newborn baby may die of the flu due to a weak immune system. When the parents caused the negative Fortune Credit for the family, sometimes the children could be the first victims. Fortune Credit is the "Treasure in Heaven" for people. If the treasure and wealth on Earth can be passed to the children, so will the "Treasure in Heaven", the Fortune Credit.

The second example is about King Solomon. King Solomon was the wealthiest and most intelligent king in history due to blessings from the Lord. This blessing was not the reward for his own work, but for the good work and devotion of his father, King David. When King Solomon turned away from the Lord and started to worship other gods in his older days, the Lord became angry with Solomon and decided to tear the kingdom away from him. He told Solomon:

"Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen." (1 Kings 11:11-13)

From this case, you can see that both positive and negative Fortune Credit can be passed to the next generation. Solomon inherited the positive Fortune Credit from his father David so he didn't get the punishment in his lifetime after he did something wrong, but his negative Fortune Credit was passed on to his children. The effect of his negative Fortune Credit was displayed in his son's life. The only way for children to cut off or reject the negative Fortune Credit from their parents is to turn their heart to God and follow the Word of God instead of following the bad examples of their parents.

Now many parents love their children so much that they would do anything to provide a better life for their children. But if they make money unethically, they will cause more negative Fortune Credit for their children and for themselves. And the negative Fortune Credit will lead to unexpected misfortunes or tragedies for their children and themselves.

Many parents want to leave a large inheritance for their children, only later to see their children waste their money and break their hearts. As Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on Earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:19-20) Sometimes the large inheritance could put their children’s lives in danger.

The best way to love your children and pass the wealth to your children is to make charitable donations and teach your children on the virtue of charity. It will turn earthly wealth into “Treasure in Heaven”, which will bring the blessings of God to several generations. Charitable donation is not just for the rich parents, it’s for all parents who want God to give more blessings to their children. It’s not the amount of money that makes the difference; it’s the matter of heart that generates positive Fortune Credit or Treasure in Heaven. The bread of a widow could be worth more than the gold of the rich. The story in Mark 12 is a good example of that.

Therefore, here is the lesson. When Solomon turned away from God, his children lost eleven tribes of his kingdom. But because of the good works of David, they could still keep at least one tribe of Israel within their kingdom. That’s how Fortune Credit, both positive and negative, can be passed down through generations.

3. Fortune Credit can be carried through the next several lives.

In the East, Buddha taught people about the cause and effect in the past life, present life, and future life. Many historical records also showed that some people even remembered what happened in their past life. But in the West, people don't know too much about past lives because God didn't teach it too much in the Bible, except on one person, the prophet Elijah, who came to this world again as John the Baptist in the next life.

In the Old Testament, Elijah was a prophet taken up to heaven by the Lord instead of dying like other men (II Kings 2). At the end of the Old Testament, the Lord said that "I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes" (Malachi 4: 5). In Chapter 1 of Luke, we know that John the Baptist is the one who have the spirit and power of Elijah. But John himself didn't know that (John 1:21). Only God knew. When the disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 17:10, "Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?" Jesus replied,

"To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist. (Matthew 17:11-13)

According to what Jesus said in both Matthew 17:11-13 and also in Matthew 11:14, John the Baptist was the prophet Elijah to come before him. In Buddhism, this is called reincarnation (see details in Chapter 4.4).

In his past life, Elijah once had a competition with 450 prophets of Baal to prove who was the true God, Baal or the Lord. And he won. But instead of teachings and converting these prophets of Baal to follow the real God, he slaughtered them all (I Kings 18:40). On his way to see the King Ahaziah, he also called the fire from heaven to kill one hundred soldiers and two captains (II King 1). These were the unnecessary and excessive killings, which caused negative Fortune Credit for him. But in that life, he was spared from the consequence and taken up to heaven alive by God.

When he came to Earth the second time as John the Baptist, these negative Fortune Credits showed their effect. John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod just because of an unintended promise. Unlike the crucifixion of Jesus as the sacrifice for human sins, John’s beheading was merely the redemption of his own negative Fortune Credit from his past life. Just like what is said in the Bible, "If anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he will be killed” (Revelation 13:10). It's the rule of God that never fails. The only difference is whether it is in this life or in the next life.

Another example is Moggallana in Buddhism history. He was one of the two outstanding disciples of Buddha. He was a great person with great psychic power. He could tell what happened in heaven or in hell. When people lost someone they loved, they would come to Moggallana to see how their loved ones’ lives were after death. He could show them how good people were rewarded in heaven or how bad people were suffering in hell. But some heretical teachers in other religions did not like him because he attracted too many followers, including their own disciples. So they hired some gangsters to kill this great monk. With his great sensible feeling, Moggallana escaped the plots six times but these gansters still tried to kill him. So he went to ask Buddha why people wanted to kill him. Buddha told Moggallana that in a past life he had married an evil-minded woman who hated his old and blind parents. She wanted to get rid of them and commanded him to kill them. And he loved this woman so much that he took her advice and sent his parents to the mountain. Then he came back to them disguised as a masked gangster and kill them. That was a grave sin and very negative Fortune Credit, or bad Karma. Even though he escaped punishment in his past life, he still needed to pay for this sin. In the end Moggallana was finally caught by a group of gangsters and beaten to death.

So you can see even the great prophet for the Lord, like Elijah, and the great disciple of Buddha, like Moggallana, could not avoid the consequence of negative Fortune Credit they caused in their past lives. Some people doing the wrong thing may think they are smarter than others so they could avoid the punishment, or that they are rich so they could hire some "good" lawyers to help them escape punishment. What they don't know is that whatever they did on Earth cannot escape the eyes of God in Heaven. If someone commits a sin, he will need to pay, either in this life or in the next life, unless he could repent and turn his heart to the Lord of Salvation, Jesus Christ. The only requirement is that he truly repents and does not sin again; otherwise the sacrifice of Christ will not be available (Hebrew 10:26).

For those repeated offenders, it's better to pay off their negative Fortune Credit in this life when it's still "affordable". When it is carried over to the next life, they will have no control on where they will be born and what kind of suffering they will endure. Whatever sufferings they caused to their victims, they will suffer the same in the next life. That’s how hard the judgment of God is for those who refuse to repent. For those who helped criminals avoid punishments, they will share the negative Fortune Credit and cause misfortune for themselves. Recently, the lawyer who helped a celebrity athlete avoid the judgment for killing his wife and her friend died of brain tumor at age of 68. If he didn’t help the killer avoid the judgment, he could have much longer life to live. The killer’s negative Fortune Credit eventually caused misfortune for him and his family.

Some Christians may think that Jesus Christ already sacrificed for us so our sins were redeemed by his sacrifice. But most people don't know that Jesus' sacrifice is only for the sins committed before we heard the Word of God, not after. In the Bible, it is said very clearly:

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Many Christians don’t know about the next life. They think they will all resurrect to heaven due to Jesus’ sacrifice. But people need to truly turn their hearts to God and have “living faith” with good deeds. If they keep on sinning after they hear the Word of God, no sacrifice for sins will be left. They will be reborn onto the Earth again for a second try. That’s why Jesus said, “many are called but only few are selected” (Matthew 22:14).

Therefore, after you have the knowledge of the truth, your newly generated Fortune Credit, either positive or negative, will be carried over through the rest of your eternal life. The best way to take advantage of Jesus’ sacrifice is to turn your heart to God and learn the complete details of Fortune Credit to avoid any new negative Fortune Credit.

Some people may wonder why God does not reward or judge people right away instead of waiting till a later time or until the next life. Some people even lose their faith in God because they didn’t see the justice right away. There is a scientific reason here. The time clock of God is different than the time clock on Earth. “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” (2 Peter 3:8).

At the beginning of the twentieth century, God revealed the details of this secret to Einstein who then showed the world the amazing Theory of Relativity. According to the Theory of Relativity, the time clock traveling at high speed will run slower than the clock that is still.

DT =

DT is the time interval in a still system and DT’ is the time interval in a moving system traveling at a speed of v in relative to the still system; c is the speed of light.

The higher the speed of “v” the smaller the time interval in the moving system DT’ compared to the time interval in the still system DT. There is a famous example of twin brothers in the Theory of Relativity. The one who travels as an astronaut at high speed for a certain number of years will come back to the Earth and find his twin brother at home much older than he is. A day traveling in the Universe at much higher speeds could be equivalent to several days, months, or even years, on Earth.

Because God can come at lightening speed, His time interval could be much shorter than the time interval on Earth. A few minutes on His time clock could mean a few years on Earth, and a couple of hour of His time could mean a hundred or more years in this world. That’s why in the book of Genesis, God only took six days to create the world. This is not earthly time, but God’s time. If His judgment comes just a few minutes or an hour later in His time, it could be several years to a hundred years later on Earth, which may already exceed the lifetime of the person for justice. That’s why some of His judgment or reward will be carried through the next life.

Therefore, don’t lose faith in God. His reward and judgment will be carried forward as He promised, for God is both love and justice. Although most people don’t know what kind of Fortune Credit they have from their past life, there are always ways to improve Fortune Credit in this life by following the Word of God and by doing more good things. People can also take advantage of Jesus’ salvation by faith and let His salvation redeem their past sins. Knowing the characteristics of Fortune Credit could help people better understand how the judgment of God will be carried out and avoid new sins and misfortunes for the future. Once people start to pay attention to their Fortune Credit and do more good works with strong faith, the blessings of God through good fortune will come soon, and this world will be a better place for the coming Heaven on Earth.
